Challenge to Design Innovative & Cost-effective Cooling Systems

Request Number 181542 | Author Mondelēz International

Description

We are interested in novel cooling technologies and design concepts that could potentially deliver a step-change in the cost or performance of our compact, retail refrigerator cabinets. We are open to exploring component technologies and partial solutions for incorporation into complete commercial units.

Background

At Mondelēz International, we want to be the best snacking company in the world and that's why we put our consumers at the heart of everything we do. As part of our growth journey, we are working on improving penetration, in our emerging markets like India. This becomes challenging for products such as chocolates which require temperature control in order to maintain their quality.

At present, glass-panelled cooling equipment of various capacities (15L-1000L) and configurations, ranging from counter-top to bigger models are used, which have become vital for driving revenue, and to gain competitive advantage while maintaining the product characteristics & eat experience. The low-footprint countertop models are the most used as they are easy to adapt to smaller stores (15-60L).

Mondelēz International is interested in components to optimise the cost, performance, and life of these retail refrigeration units. Proposed solutions do not have to be commercially available but should be capable of demonstration if required.

Key Success Criteria
  • Maintains temperatures of 18-22C in ambient temperatures of +40C
  • Must be cost competitive vs. standard compressor cooling technology
  • Maintains shopper experience, visibility of product range & branding
  • Solution requires minimum intervention/maintenance from retailer
  • Long lasting, scalable solution
  • Low carbon footprint
Possible Approaches
N/A
What We Aren't Interested In
  • Solutions that require significant skill to use
  • Ideas with no meaningful advantage over currently available systems
Preferred Collaboration types

Open to a variety of partnerships from Joint Development agreements, licensing, supplier, etc.
